It’s now mere weeks until Holden shuts shop in Adelaide and a mystery buyer has now reportedly secured the Elizabeth site with plans for a state-of-the-art business park.

Holden executive director Richard Phillips has confirmed the buyer is definitely from interstate, but would not spell out who who’ll be moving in once the car manufacturer has completely cleared out from the site by mid-2019, the ABC reports.

"They have a good performance record and ability to deliver a high-quality outcome," he said.

Holden has said the new owner would transform the site into an “innovative business park” with resources, logistics, defense, food and beverage businesses all welcome – with Holden also hanging on to a segment for a spare parts operation.

While use of the site has been rumoured to include medical cannabis cultivation or electric car manufacturing, Mr Phillips has “promised” renewable energy would be part of the plan for the site.

The name of the buyer is to be revealed once contracting is complete.
