It all started just after 9.30 when police responded to reports of someone seen inside a business on Port Road at Albert Park.
But just as officers arrived, a ute with 2 men inside drove away from the building.
Police tailed the car through some back streets before calling off the pursuit for safety reasons.
Just before 10 pm the car stopped in the car park of the Peterhead train station where the pair got out and tried to make a run for it.
Attempts to arrest the passenger came undone when the driver reversed the ute and the officer was forced to jump out of the way.
The pair drove off once again and police lost sight of the car.
It was found a short time later dumped in nearby Peterhead Street with no sign of the two men.
A search of the surrounding area came up empty.
Police say the suspects are of slim build and were wearing dark hooded jumpers.
The car involved had been nicked from the premises at Albert Park.
