Adelaide's extreme heat has forced the cancellation of the Bupa Challenge Tour.
With temperatures in the 40's across Adelaide and the rest of South Australia, event organisers have been forced to cancel the Bupa Challenge Tour in accordance to the event's Extreme Weather Safety Plan.
The Bupa Challenge Tour was set to commence in Norwood, at the starting line of Stage 4 of the Santos Tour Down Under.
“We take the safety and welfare of Bupa Challenge Tour participants very seriously, and it is their wellbeing that comes first,” said Hitaf Rasheed, Executive Director of Events South Australia.
“Whilst we know there will be some disappointed participants, and we too are disappointed to be making this decision, we are confident this is the right decision. Safety of all involved is the highest priority and won’t be compromised.”
Full refunds will be issued for all participants of the Bupa Challenge Tour.
The cancelation of the event has allowed organisers of the Santos Tour Down Under to bring forward the start of tomorrows Stage 4 event in Norwood to 10:30am, to allow competitors to race during the cooler period of the day.
Fans are encouraged to join the start at Norwood and then make their way to Uraidla to enjoy planned festivities put on by the town of Uraidla, stage sponsor Bupa and other event partners.
