Southern Football League club Port Noarlunga have been chucked out of their upcoming preliminary final after a costly admin error.
Port Noarlunga were due to line-up to play for a spot in the grand final after a one-point semifinal win over Morphett Vale last Saturday, but league investigators found they had fielded a player who was ineligible for finals.
The club took to its Facebook page to apologise for the 'huge mistake', which has been deemed as an oversight by administrators and not a cheating ploy.
"This was in no way intentional, and resulted from not fully understanding the by law, and not having the resources to research them fully," the post read.
"As a club, we need to accept this decision and move on.
"We need to come out of this stronger and better resourced to ensure that nothing like this can ever be repeated."
The SFL has chosen to reinstate Morphett Vale into the preliminary final, to be played against Noarlunga at Christies Beach on Saturday.
