New Royal Adelaide Hospital Gets Opening Date

It's official.

Our new hospital will open its doors to patients on September 5.

The State Government's announced in-patients will be shifted into the new facility over three days - September 4, 5 and 6.

A fourth day's been set aside just in case.

From 7am on Tuesday September 5, the new Emergency Department will start taking patients.

At the same time, the old ED will close for good.

A fleet of ambulances, and a multi-patient bus will transport around 100 patients to the new hospital each day of the move.

Patient numbers at the old hospital will reduced from 600 to 300 in a six-week "ramp down" with hospitals in the suburbs to take on extra in-patients during this time.

As for tours, Premier Jay Weatherill says they'll start in the next couple of months ahead of the official opening.

"There’s been a huge amount of interest from the community so we will be holding tour days so the public can see inside this wonderful facility for themselves sometime in July," he said.
