According to Clean Up Australia, almost 500,000 plastic bags are disposed of every hour in Australia. 

That is way too much.

Over the last few years there has been a push by local councils to ban plastic bags and it appears that the State Government is looking to phase them out over 18 months.

One town that is leading the way is Denmark. One retailer previously banned plastic bags but overturned the decision after some backlash and now another retailer has banned them permanently and encourages customers to use green bags, paper bags or boxes.

So after having the convenience of having plastic bags for so long, what are the alternatives? A few locals had their say.
