A new community mental health step up/step down service has been announced for Albany by WA Health Minister Roger Cook.

This service is the first of its kind in regional Western Australia and will be based out of the former Albany Hospice on the grounds at the Albany Health Campus.

The six bed facility will improve the options for people with mental health issues and their carers which will enable more people to recover in their community with support from family and friends.

The service will provide residential support and individualized care for people on a short term basis and is tailored for people discharged from hospital for a mental health issue.

Other mental health step up/step down services are to be introduced in other regional centres across the state including Bunbury, Karratha, Broome and Kalgoorlie.
