This year the Commonwealth Games are being held on the Gold Coast in April and as the countdown continues, the Queens Baton will arrive in Western Australia this Thursday!

Albany is the first destination for the Queens Baton and will acknowledge community members who have gone beyond the call of duty.

The baton arrives at the National Anzac Centre at 7am with a welcome ceremony before the relay continues through the streets of Albany concluding with a Community Celebration between 10.15am and 11am in Albany Town Square.

It's going to be a fantastic day and once again well done to all baton bearers!

Please note there will be road closures in Mt Adelaide, Middleton Beach, Mt Clarence, Mira Mar, Spencer Park, Centennial Park, Albany CBD and Mt Melville at various times between 6am and 11am on Thursday for a maximum of 3 hours at a time.

In Albany CBD, York Street between Grey Street and Serpentine Road will be closed from 6am until 1.30pm

Along the relay route, a rolling road closure will be in place, so as the procession moves through the streets of Albany the road closure will move with it. Each section of road will be reopened once the procession has passed and normal traffic flow with resume

Change of bin day.

If you live on Martin Road, Hardie, Road, Angove Road, Campbell Road, your property has a domestic bin service and your house is located along the Queen's Baton Relay route then your bin will not be collected on Thursday the 22nd of February. Instead your bin will be collected on Friday the 22nd of February.
