Authorities have got the upper hand on two fires that threatened parts of Albany this afternoon.

A bushfire WATCH AND ACT has no been issued for people in an area bounded by John Street to the north, Anson Road to the south, Adelaide Street to the west and Chester Pass Road to the east in Orana and Milpara.

This fire has now been contained and the fire is also stationary.

The fire had started at the intersection of Anson Road and Albany Highway after midday today, with the cause of the fire unknown. 

There is also a bushfire ADVICE in place for people in an area bounded by John Street to the south, Adelaide Street to the west, Chester Pass Road to the east and Henry Street to the north.

As a result, John Street has been closed as firefighters continue to battle the fire.

The other fire affected parts of King River, but that has now been contained and controlled.

A bushfire ADVICE is issued for people in an area bounded by Hooper Road, Chester Pass Road, Norwood Road, Willyung Road and Lower King Road.

This fire started at the intersection of Greatrex Road and Chester Pass Road, with the cause of the fire unknown.

Authorities are seeking any information on this fire as it could also be suspicious. Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

ORANA FIRE

A bushfire WATCH AND ACT has been issued for people in an area bounded John Street to the north, Anson Road to the south, Adelaide Street to the west and Chester Pass Road to the east in ORANA and MILPARA in the CITY OF ALBANY.

  • The alert level for this fire has been downgraded as the fire has been contained.
  • There is a possible threat to lives and homes as a fire is approaching in the area and conditions are changing.
  • You need to leave or get ready to actively defend.
  • The fire started near the intersection of ANSON RD and ALBANY HWY in ORANA
  • The fire is now stationary.

WHAT TO DO:

  • If you are not prepared or you plan to leave, leave now if the way is clear.
  • If you are well prepared and plan to actively defend your home, make final preparations now.
  • If you are not at home, do not try to return as conditions in the area could be very dangerous.
  • Close all doors and windows and turn off evaporative air conditioners, but keep water running through the system if possible.


Bushfire ADVICE for parts of ORANA and MILPARA in the CITY OF ALBANY

ALERT LEVEL:

A bushfire ADVICE has been issued for people in an area bounded John Street to the south, Adelaide Street to the west, Chester Pass Road to the east and Henry Street to the north in ORANA and MILPARA in the CITY OF ALBANY.

  • The alert level for this fire has been downgraded as the fire has been contained
  • There is no threat to lives or homes.
  • Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes.
  • The fire started near the intersection of ANSON RD and ALBANY HWY in ORANA
  • The fire is now stationary.

WHAT TO DO:

  • Stay alert and monitor your surroundings.
  • Watch for signs of a bushfire, especially smoke and flames.
  • Close all doors and windows, and turn off evaporative air conditioners but keep water running through the system if possible.
  • Read through your bushfire survival plan.
  • If you do not have a plan decide what you will do if the situation gets worse.

If driving

  • Be extremely careful when driving through the area.
  • Turn your headlights on and drive slowly.
  • Watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions.


BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR:

  • The bushfire is moving slowly in a north easterly direction.
  • It is contained but not controlled.
  • Firefighters are expecting the wind to change from south westerly to easterly at midnight.

John Street has been closed.

Avoid the area and be aware of fire and emergency services personnel working on site.

KING RIVER FIRE

A bushfire ADVICE has been issued for people in an area bounded by Hooper Road, Chester Pass Road, Norwood Road, Willyung Road and Lower King Road in KING RIVER in the CITY OF ALBANY.

  • The alert level for this fire has been downgraded as it is now contained and controlled.
  • There is no threat to lives or homes.
  • There is a lot of smoke in the area.
  • Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes.
  • The fire started near the intersection of GREATREX RD and CHESTER PASS RD in KING RIVER.

WHAT TO DO:

  • Stay alert and monitor your surroundings.
  • Watch for signs of a bushfire, especially smoke and flames.
  • Close all doors and windows, and turn off evaporative air conditioners but keep water running through the system if possible.
  • Read through your bushfire survival plan.
  • If you do not have a plan decide what you will do if the situation gets worse.

  • If you cannot see clearly, pull over, keep your headlights and hazard lights on, and wait until the smoke clears.
