Two fishermen are currently being treated in hospital after being swept off rocks at Salmon Holes on Saturday afternoon

The incident occurred just after midday, with the men making their way onto a reef before being assisted to the beach by other people in the area. It is understood that they were not wearing life jackets.

Emergency first aid was administered by members of the public while St John Ambulance were called.

Superintendent Domenic Wood from Great Southern Police said it was fortunate the men remained conscious and afloat while they were in the water and there were people nearby to assist.

"Our thoughts are with them and their families. Fingers crossed they both pull through. One is in a very good condition compared to the other person so let's just pray for them."

Saturday's incident comes after a 30 year old Albany man died at a nearby Lowlands Beach less than a month ago.

Local member for member for Albany, Peter Watson has been lobbying to the state government for life jackets to be mandatory while rock fishing.
