White Ribbon Day is a day where we look to put an end to violence again women. It's also a day for others to speak up if they see something happening.

Violence is a big issue in the community, quite often going un noticed

In the last year there were 1600 reports of domestic in the Great Southern however there are concerns that plenty of incidents are going un reported.

The Umbrella Project is putting the spotlight on this significant issue

Local White Ribbon Ambassadors are getting behind the project to encourage community members to be active bystanders to violence by offering support to women experiencing violence.

Jared Croston, from the Albany Family and Domestic Violence Action Group said participating in the Umbrella Project is an easy way to show survivors of violence that we are here to help.

“White Ribbon Day is an opportunity for us all to show support for women experiencing family violence by being active bystanders. We can help by simply offering to listen and being open to providing assistance”.

The Albany Women’s Centre will display photos and posters received for the Umbrella Project at public locations during the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence (25 November - 10 December).

Trish Travers from Soroptomist International Albany spoke about the project.
