Firefighters have now contained and controlled a fire that was burning in state forest in the Shire of Beverley.

An ALL CLEAR has now been given for those in the vicinity of east of Yarra Road and north of Brookton Highway, 18kms north-west of Westdale.

The fire was started by a lightning strike and first reported yesterday at around 2:30pm.

The fire was brought under control quickly due to recent prescribed burns conducted by Parks and Wildlife.

BUSHFIRE INFORMATION

ALERT LEVEL: An ALL CLEAR advice has been issued for people within the vicinity of State forest east of Yarra Rd and north of Brookton Highway, 18kms north-west of Westdale.

  • The bushfire that was burning in State forest has been contained and is under control.
  • Firefighters will monitor the area for the rest of the day
  • The danger has passed but you need to remain vigilant in case the situation changes.

WHAT TO DO: 

  • Drive slowly and with caution due to smoke and emergency services personnel working in the area.


BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR:

The fire was brought under control quickly due to a recent prescribed burn conducted by Parks and Wildlife Service in the forest.


ROAD CLOSURES AND CONDITIONS: 

Roads have not been closed.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully due to smoke.

  • Firefighters are monitoring the situation.

  • The fire was reported at 02:41 PM on 13 November 2017 and currently there has been 3.5 hectares burnt.
  • The cause of the fire is lightning.
  • Parks and Wildlife Service is now managing the fire.
