A fire in the Julimar State Forest is now contained after a long day for firefighters.

A bushfire ADVICE has now been issued for people between Bindoon-Dewars Road and Julimar Road and those in the vicintiy of the western boundary of Julimar State Forest.

Firefighters will work to strengthen containment lines this evening and tomorrow.

The fire began at the intersection of Cooks Rd and Northern Boundary Road and is burning fast towards the western boundary of the forest.

A 41 year old man is being questioned be police following the fire.

JULIMAR FIRE

A bushfire ADVICE has been issued for people between Bindoon-Dewars Road and Julimar Road, and in the vicinity of the western boundary of Julimar State forest.

  • The alert level for this fire has been downgraded as the fire has been contained and conditions have eased.
  • There is no threat to lives or homes.
  • Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes.
  • The fire started near the intersection of HEWITT RD and NORTHERN BOUNDARY RD in JULIMAR.

WHAT TO DO:

If driving

  • Be extremely careful when driving through the area.
  • Turn your headlights on and drive slowly.
  • Watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions.


BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR:

  • It is contained.


ROAD CLOSURES AND CONDITIONS:

Roads have not been closed.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully due to smoke.

WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING:

  • Firefighters are strengthening containment lines, patrolling the area and mopping up.
  • 100 Department of Parks and Wildlife, career and volunteer bushfire brigade firefighters are attending.


EXTRA INFORMATION:

  • The fire was reported at 07:30 AM on 26 January 2017 and currently there has been 615 hectares burnt.
  • The cause of the fire is unknown.
  • Parks and Wildlife is now managing the fire.
