Around 8.45pm on Sunday the 2nd of September, the was a major disturbance at the Yongah Hill Immigration Detention Centre in Northam.

Some key points from Australian Border Force police

 

A detainee from Yongah Hill IDC was taken to hospital last night and is currently receiving appropriate medical care.  We cannot comment further on individual cases.

 

All detainees and staff are safe and accounted for and there have been no reported injuries.

 

A number of accommodation areas have been damaged. A full assessment of the damage will be made in due course.

 

There had been reports of tensions simmering for a number of days and alleged suicide attempt of at least one inmate.
