Open Air Zoo Canned

"Desperate Politics" According To Labor

Article heading image for Open Air Zoo Canned

Remember in early November we were told there was going to be a new zoo in WA?

It would be open-air, with animals roaming free land in Chittering.

Well, scrap that now.

With a change of government and the state in a lot of debt, current Premier Mark McGowan has pulled the pin on the audacious project.

700ha of land was to be set aside for the new zoo and up to $200 million would be spent over a 10 year period, in a bid to boost tourism.

Keep in mind, Colin Barnett wasn't just Premier, but also Tourism Minister.

At the time, the Labor Party like the idea, but saw it as "desperate politics" with a state election on the way.

So for those hoping for roaming rhinos, elephants and giraffes, you're going to have to look interstate.
