Backpacker Murder Accused In Queensland Court

A man is due to face court charged with fatally stabbing a German tourist in an apparent road rage incident in Brisbane.

Police say the 30-year-old backpacker and a male friend were crossing Milton Road around 4am on Friday when they became involved in a "verbal altercation" with a man and a woman in a car.

It's alleged the 33-year-old man then got out of the car and stabbed the German man in the abdomen and back.

He died four hours later in hospital.

Detectives say the two pedestrians were staying at a nearby hostel and were likely returning when the attack happened.

The Lockrose man was arrested on Saturday and charged with murder. He is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.
