Hundreds of barber-shop-style striped poles have appeared on Brisbane streets, and it turns out they're a Council initiative to help drivers.
The striped poles, which come in two colours, have different meanings:
Blue and white stripes are positioned at loading zones where drivings are allowed to legally stop to pick up or drop off passengers, while green and white poles positioned within school zones signal where parents can do the same for students.
The poles were initially trialled off the back of recommendations made in a parking review 4 years ago. Basically, Council were told the red and white information signs were too confusing and not visually prominent enough for drivers to understand in a timely manner.
