There are some concerns over the nine-storey high-rise proposed for the Bargara foreshore.

The high-rise has been proposed for the intersection of Burkitt St and the Esplanade, but will be debated in a council briefing meeting with a vote also set to take place before the project is given the green light.

Supporters for the high-rise say it will bring more jobs and progress to Bargara, whereas those opposed say it will damage the atmosphere and threaten the region's turtle population.

The proposed high-rise has been compared to southern tourist hotspots Noosa and Byron Bay, who adhere to strict building heights to maintain the atmosphere and character of the coastal towns.
