The body of a spearfisherman missing off the coast south of Cairns has been located.
Warren Hughes, 35, disappeared while spearfishing in waters between Palmer Point and High Island, north of Innisfail, on Saturday.
Police confirmed his body was located earlier this morning not far off shore and said Mr Hughes’ family had been advised.
It is understood authorities believe he may have been attacked by a large, aggressive crocodile which also attacked a police tender last night.
The animal is estimated to be 4.5m long and authority has been given to destroy it.
Far North Insp Rhys Newton confirmed it attacked the 6.2m water police tender last night and said it had also exhibited behaviour consistent with having killed recently or protecting a food source.
