A man will spend the next two months behind bars, after allegedly leaving another man he knows seriously injured in an assault in Killarney Vale on Thursday night.

Just before 11.30pm, emergency services were called to a service station on Wyong Road, where a 22-year-old man was found seriously injured.

Police have been told he had been involved in a physical altercation with another man.

The man was taken to John Hunter Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Officers from Tuggerah Lakes Police District attended and launched an investigation.

Following inquiries, detectives attended a home at Chain Valley Bay about 7.40am yesterday, and arrested a 21-year-old man.

He was taken to Wyong Police Station and charged with cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and affray.

The man then appeared at Wyong Local Court, and was refused bail to appear in the same court on Tuesday July 17.

Detectives are urging anyone with information or anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward.
