Former Minister jailed for misconduct

Ian Macdonald Gets 10

Corrupt former NSW minister Ian Macdonald has been sentenced to at least seven years in jail for misconduct in public office.

Mr Macdonald, 68, was in March found guilty of wilful misconduct in public office for signing over a valuable NSW Hunter Valley mining licence to his union mate, John Maitland, when he was NSW mineral resources minister in 2008.

In the NSW Supreme Court on Friday, Justice Christine Adamson also sentenced Maitland, 71, to at least years four years behind bars.

Maitland, who made $6 million selling shares in a company that acquired Doyles Creek Mining after the licence was granted, was found guilty of being an accessory to the misconduct.

Mr Macdonald was Minister for the Central Coast between 2009 and 2010.
