The RSPCA has condemned an alleged spear gun attack on a dog at Woy Woy.
A 45-year-old man has been refused bail to front Gosford Local Court over the incident today.
He's accused of breaking into a Cogra Road home yesterday and punching, then shooting the dog after an ongoing dispute with a neighbour over its barking.
RSPCA NSW Chief Inspector David O'Shannesy says the Labradoodle's undergone surgery overnight.
He saw pictures of its injuries.
"It's definitely distressing," he said.
The dog is receiving specialist vet care today.
The RSPCA says if we have an issue with dogs barking nearby, we should use the appropriate channels to deal with it.
"Talk to your neighbours if there are concerns and try to work through those challenges.," Mr O'Shannesy said.
"If they can't be resolved in that manner, obviously the people with the issue should be contacting the authorities [council] to deal with it appropriately."
A Woy Woy man will face court today on animal cruelty charges after allegedly shooting a dog with a spear gun on the Peninsula yesterday.
Police will allege in court a 45-year-old man forced entry into a home on Cogra Road about midday, and allegedly hit the dog over the head, causing several lacerations.
It will be further alleged the man fired a spear gun after the dog became stuck between a fence and garage wall, hitting it in the head.
Officers attached to Brisbane Water Local Area Command were alerted and attended the location.
The 45-year-old man was arrested and taken to Gosford Police Station where he was charged with commit act of aggravated cruelty upon an animal, fire spear gun manner likely to injure person/property and break and enter house etc steal value less than $60,000.
He was refused bail and is due to appear at Gosford Local Court today.
The dog was taken to a veterinary clinic where she underwent surgery.
It's understood the incident followed an ongoing neighbourly dispute about the dog barking.
