Native Duck Struck With Blow Dart In Berkeley Vale

Wildlife carers call out animal cruelty

Native Duck Struck With Blow Dart In Berkeley Vale

Coast wildlife carers have been left horrified after a duck was rescued with a rusted blow dart in its face, narrowly missing its eye.

Wildlife ARC has blasted the act of animal cruelty.

Head bird carer, Cathy Stubbs says it came into care on Wednesday, five days after it was first spotted in Berkeley Vale.

"There obviously is someone in the area that thinks it's fun to use our native animals as target practice," she lamented.

It's believed the duck will make a good recovery, after the weapon managed to avoid piercing any major organs, penetrating 3mm below its eye.

The group's urging anyone who spots abuse to get in touch with police or the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

If we spot a native animal in trouble, we can get in touch with Wildlife ARC on (02) 4325 0666.
