One news story that sparked a bit of discussion on our Facebook pages this week was the animal cruelty case that occurred in our Avon Valley.

Toodyay man Clinton Charles Wheatley was sentenced in Perth Magistrates Court on Monday after pleading guilty to cruelty to sheep on his farm, fined $50,000.

An RSPCA statement said inspectors attended Wheatley’s property in Toodyay following a complaint from a member of the public regarding a large number of sheep that were dead or dying at the property, this was all reported and occurred back in 2014.

In April this year, a pair in South Trayning were charged $40,000 and banned from owning any animal for a ten-year period after RSPCA WA inspectors found decomposing animal carcasses and severely neglected dogs and horses on their property in 2016.

While a positive neither instances happened this year and there haven’t been any like it since, still not super pleasant subject matter to speak/write of, but important to address none the less.

RSPCA WA encourages anyone who witnesses animal cruelty to report it immediately to the RSPCA Cruelty Line on 1300 CRUELTY (1300 278 3589).
