The much awaited release of baby Green turtles arrived on Saturday afternoon.

70 healthy turtle hatchlings were filmed by National Park and Wildlife Services (NPWS) at sunset heading towards the water at Boambee beach.

Gumbaynggirr Elders and volunteers attended the milestone, after the mother was sighted to lay the eggs on the Coffs Harbour beach in January.

Conditions weren’t too rough for the babies as they were wished on their way by local Elder Uncle Buddy.

It’s understood that Coffs Harbour is the most southern spot for Green turtles to nest due to temperatures.
