A newly formed committee working to fix issues with the Coffs Harbour Boat Ramp are chasing community support with a petition.

The Coffs Harbour Regional Boat Ramp Precinct Enhancement Committee received the support of Coffs Harbour City Councillors at a recent Council Meeting after a presentation by their chairman John Lawler.

Now, the committee are seeking signatures for a petition with the hope of the matter being debated in NSW Parliament.

The future vision of the precinct and it’s amenities are top of mind for the committee.

The Public Petition has been cleared through the NSW Parliament Tabling Office.

Mr Lawler said that Coffs Harbour State Member, Andrew Fraser, has agreed to sponsor the Petition.

“We are hoping with the support of the community, to gain over 10,000 signatures on the petition. This would mean that the issue is required to be debated in the NSW Parliament” Mr Lawler said.

Recently, the Committee met with Andrew Fraser who indicated strong support for tackling the issue. According the Mr Lawler, Mr Fraser outlined work that he had been doing over many years to improve the Harbour precinct and agreed to support the Committee’s work.

The petition can be signed at Andrew Fraser’s office in Park Avenue.

At a recent meeting of the committee, it was also reported that the General Manager of the Coffs Council, Steve McGrath, is considering having the petition available for Council staff and at Council’s offices for staff to sign if they wish.

The Coffs Harbour Chamber of Commerce is lending their support to the committee, as well as Coffs Harbour Marine Rescue and the Coffs Ex Servicemen’s Club, who have asked to join our Committee.

The Committee is also seeking to meet with Federal Member for Cowper, Luke Hartsuyker, to seek his support at the Commonwealth level for the Committee’s work.

Mr Lawler said, “It is important to highlight that the issue we are raising is not restricted to boat owners or people who use the regional boat ramp and its precinct.  It has an impact on the economic well-being of our region and everyone in it, let alone to mention the safety for the people who use the ramp, young and old, local or visitor”.

“Everyone in our region and beyond, has an intimate stake in seeing significant improvements occur” he said.
