A whale has beached itself in Sawtell this morning.
The juvenile whale was spotted by nearby surfers in front of the Sawtell Surf Club after 7am.
According to one Triple M listener, he told Moffee, the whale was surrounded by local surfers who had stayed with the creature for a number of hours.
Large crowds have been watching on as experts from Dolphin Marine Magic, ORRCA and National Parks and Wildlife work to stabilize the whale.
With tides dropping, concerns are held for the welfare of the mammal as less water is now supporting the creature and its vital organs. As the day goes on the chances of survival are narrowing.
Police have roped off the area, with officers patrolling the area.
