Turn your New Year’s good intentions into healthy habits with Toowoomba Regional Council’s CHANGE Project lifestyle and exercise programs.

TRC Parks and Recreation Services portfolio leader Cr Joe Ramia said Council’s award-winning CHANGE Project had a host of low-cost programs that were designed to offer simple tips promoting healthy cooking, eating and exercise regimes.

Cr Ramia said residents could learn about healthy eating and good nutrition at coming Family Foodies and Seed to Feed workshops.

He said the Family Foodies workshops were run by nutritionists to give easy instructions about healthy eating to families with children in primary school.

“These fun and interactive workshops focus on learning about energy needs, food choices, establishing healthy habits and making a healthy snack together,” Cr Ramia said.

“All attendees receive a free healthy eating booklet and can join the Family Foodies online community to connect with others and access online support from the nutritionist after the workshop.”

These workshops are free with bookings required.

Cr Ramia said Seed to Feed workshops were run by horticulturalist Brian Sams to teach people to grow fruit and vegetables in backyard gardens, patches and pots.

“This year’s classes will focus on growing fruit and vegetables from what people have at home or what they can share with neighbours,” Cr Ramia said.

“Workshops cover seed-saving, DIY propagation, creating your own mini-greenhouse and using fertilisers.

“Everyone who attends a Seed to Feed workshop in 2017 is eligible to win a veggie patch boost with Brian Sams.”

Workshops cost $5 and bookings are required.

Please note, the Oakey Family Foodies workshop now will be held from 10-11am on Friday, January 20 at the Oakey Community Centre in Campbell Street.

The Oakey Seed to Feed workshop (9am to noon, Saturday, February 11) has changed location to the Oakey Community Centre in Campbell Street.
