With a spate of break and enters in recent weeks in Coffs Harbour, police from the Coffs Clarence LAC are asking us to be Summer Safe.

The crime prevention strategy is in an attempt to drive down crime with stealing offences on the Coffs Coast.

Around Sawtell and Toormina, offenders have been getting into houses through unlocked doors and windows or by cutting fly screens.

Speaking to Triple M, Coffs Clarence Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Darren Jameson is asking everyone to ensure they secure their properties, cars, and campsites with the holiday season upon us.

Det Insp Jameson said, "You can't ignore that there are criminals in this world that creep through your homes while you sleep".

"We are seeing an increase in break and enters between 3am and 5am when people are asleep and their children are asleep", he said.
