Coffs Clarence Police Charge Two Men For Alleged Stabbing and Vehicle Theft

Police have charged two men after allegedly stabbing a man and taking his vehicle in northern NSW on Thursday.

Just before 5pm, a 42 year old man was with three other men at a housing estate in Yamba when one of the men, aged 28, approached the older man and allegedly assaulted him a number of times before stabbing him in the knee with a pair of scissors.

A second man, aged 27, demanded the older man drive the trio in his van parked nearby.

Police will allege the 28 year old then allegedly swung a hammer at the 42 year old, missing him, before the three men drove the older man’s van from the scene.

The injured man attended a nearby house for assistance. He was taken to Grafton Hospital in a stable condition.

Officers from Coffs/Clarence Local Area Command were contacted and located the van travelling within the estate and attempted to stop it.

The 28 year old driver ran from the vehicle and was arrested a short distance away, together with a 27 year old man.

The pair were then taken to Yamba Police Station, where the 28 year old man underwent a breath test analysis which returned an alleged reading of 0.103.

He was charged with aggravated robbery with wounding, drive with middle-range PCA, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period and an arrest warrant.

The younger man was charged with aggravated robbery with wounding.

Both men were refused bail to appear at Grafton Local Court today (Friday 16 December 2016).

A third man, 36, who was arrested at the scene of the stabbing, was released pending further inquiries.
