Member for Coffs Harbour Andrew Fraser has commended Coffs/Clarence Local Area Command police for their exceptional work in fighting local crime.

The most recent quarterly data from the Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR) is a testament to the proactive work of local police in detecting and preventing crime.

Mr Fraser said statistics for the Coffs Harbour Local Government Area followed the state-wide trends, with several offences remaining stable or trending down.

"Locally, it is very reassuring to see downward trends".

The following major crime categories have seen drops:

  • Assault – domestic violence-related is down 14.1%
  • Steal from motor vehicle is down 21.5%
  • Steal from retail store is down 36.5%
  • Malicious damage to property is down 12.2%

"This latest data from BOCSAR reflects the commitment and dedication of our local police to keeping our community safe", Mr Fraser said.

"I would like to thank the Coffs Coast community for doing its bit by reporting crime, working closely with our local police officers, and remaining vigilant".

Minister for Police Troy Grant said for the first time in nine years, recorded incidents of domestic violence assault have fallen.

"The last time we saw domestic violence assault rates drop was in 2008, so it’s an incredible result and great news for all the people working tirelessly at the coalface to protect victims and hold perpetrators to account,” Mr Grant said.

"These statistics signal a major step forward in the battle to combat this scourge, and with a streamlined and modernised policing structure coming into full effect state-wide early next year, our response to domestic violence and all serious crime will be bolstered".

At the recent Coffs Clarence LAC Awards Day, the region's Commander, Superintendent Mark Holahan told Triple M, he is proud of the great work our Police do, and the high standards that they serve the Coffs Clarence Community.

“I’m so proud to work with these people every day. I hear and see what these people do”, he said.

Member for Coffs Harbour, Andrew Fraser, commended the officers of the state, in particular the Coffs Clarence.

Mr Fraser told Triple M, “we are at home asleep, and feeling safe, the reason we are safe is because of these officers and the great job that they do”.
