A Coffs Harbour man has been charged following a motor vehicle crash on Monday night.

Just after 7pm, the 40 year old man was driving a white Subaru station wagon north along the Pacific Highway at Coffs Harbour.

At the intersection of Pacific Highway and Bray St Coffs Harbour, police will allege that the vehicle was involved in a low speed collision with a Toyota which was stationary at the red light.

The Subaru then continued along the Pacific Highway and into the nearby shopping area carpark where he collided with the raised garden bed.

It is understood that the driver got out of the car, before being approached by a nearby security officer, as police attended.

The Coffs Harbour man was subject to a roadside breath test which returned a positive result, he was arrested and taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station where he was subject to breath analysis which returned a result of 0.261 grams of alcohol per 210 litres of breath.

According to NSW Police, the male is the holder of a P1 Red provisional drivers licence which was suspended by police.

Cannabis was also found during a search of the man.

He has been charged with High Range PCA and Possess prohibited drug.

The man was bailed to attend Coffs Harbour Local Court on Monday 22 October 2018.
