Rain, wind and low visibility made landing difficult for a number of flights enroute to Coffs Harbour.

A Virgin plane from Sydney circled a number of times before finding a brief clearing to land. Footage captured above shows the nose of the plane pushed to the left as it came in to land.

Earlier in the afternoon, a Tigerair flight from Sydney and a Fly Pelican flight from Newcastle had been forced to circle the Coffs Coast a number of times.

A caller to Triple M said they heard the loud engine of the Airbus A320-232 over the Jetty before noticing the unusual flight path of the plane through the clouds.

In what has almost seemed like a game of cat and mouse, both both planes spent around 30 minutes in the skies above Woolgoolga and the northern beaches.

Around 2:50pm the Tigerair plane, seen above on Flightradar24, flew over the airport before raising its altitude and heading to the south.

Meanwhile the FlyPelican flight continued to circle the northern beaches before returning for a flyover of the Coffs Harbour Airport.

The Tigerair flight was then forced to return to Sydney before landing safely at 3:40pm, while the FlyPelican flight returned to Newcastle.

The conditions also appear to be making it difficult for a Qantas plane, due to land, but flew over the airport.

As seen below, one flyover of the A320-232:
