A local Coffs Coast family have put their lives on hold to be at the bedside of their teenage daughter and sister.

On Friday afternoon the Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter and NSW Ambulance Paramedics were called to the Dorrigo area following reports of an accident involving a young girl and a horse.

13 year old Lauren had just spent the week at a Pony Club camp with her mum, Leanne, when the freak accident occurred.

According to initial reports, it is understood that Lauren was thrown from the horse, before it then rolled onto her.

Friends have come together to setup a GoFundMe page to assist the family.

Describing Lauren as an 'outgoing, vibrant & beautiful 13 year old girl' who was 'doing what she loves most'.

The accident has left Lauren in the Critical Care Unit at the Gold Coast University Hospital.
