Confirmation from NSW Police today that bones found on the construction site of the new bridge are that of an animal, not human.

Work was halted after the discovery on Tuesday at the Pound Street location.

Police from the Coffs Clarence LAC attended the site and cordoned off the area while forensic specialists began their investigations.

RMS released a statement to say they were working with police.

After 4pm today, Police confirmed that the bones found were not human remains, however belong to an animal.
