Coffs Harbour City Councillors have voted to support the vision of a committee working to improve the Coffs Harbour Boat Ramp.

It follows a large volume of concerns in recent years, and in particular in recent weeks since the Easter weekend.

The group’s spokesperson, John Lawler, addressed council at Thursday’s meeting to raise their concerns and the vision they hold for the precinct.

Speaking about the group of volunteers, Mr Lawler described them as a group of highly experienced residents, some with over 50 years experience and knowledge of the area.

Mr Lawler told councillors, that they were being asked to support, “a vision, a vision for the future”.

When asked if the group had approached the state government member, Mr Lawler said, “our first priority was to come to this council”.

During the discussions, Cr Keith Rhoades criticised comments made by state member Andrew Fraser on radio, where he questioned whether money given by State Government in 2015 was spent on what was recommended in extending the groyne.

Cr Rhoades read out a press release from Mr Fraser’s website from 2015 about work being completed.

“I say council did spend the money”, Cr Rhoades said.

This followed more criticism from the Coffs Harbour Mayor, who took aim at comments by Andrew Fraser on the radio (Triple M) regarding council putting together “another committee”.

Cr Knight said, “We are here to support you, to support us”.

The meeting took an unusual start when Coffs Harbour Mayor Denise Knight outlined that the meeting was streamed live, with no other authorised recording allowed, however then proceeded to single out Triple M Breakfast Announcer, Moffee, asking that he was not recording anything.

Two other media outlets in the chambers we’re not individually singled out.
