Coffs Harbour City Councillor John Arkan has returned to Council for the first time since taking leave in September.

The Councillor was granted leave for personal reasons on 28 September following an incident which landed him in Court.

In July, Cr Arkan was pulled over by Police at Moonee Beach in his Toyota Coaster bus for an illegal U-turn.  At the time, it was also found that the vehicle was unregistered and uninsured, with number plates that were for a 4WD he owned, rather than the bus.

Councillor Arkan pleaded guilty to all charges in front of Magistrate Robert Walker at Coffs Harbour Local Court.

At the time of the incident many in the community called for Mr Arkan to be sacked from his role in the Coffs Harbour City Council, however in a statement from the Council, they said they "emphasise that it has no legislative authority to take action against an individual for matters that are outside Council’s official functions".

In accordance with section 254A of the Local Government Act, Cr Arkan’s fees have not be paid during his absence.

Today's meeting is the final Coffs Harbour City Council meeting for 2017.
