There’s renewed pressure on Bellingen Shire Council to back track on plans to remove five camphor laurel trees from its main street.

About 900 people signing their name on the Change.Org document, which speculates some local government reps are “set on removing them… for personal reasons”.

But Councillor Jennie Fenton says that’s not the case.

She says the look and feel of town isn’t the only consideration, as the elderly and disabled have difficulty navigating paths mangled by their roots.

Council’s keen to hear feedback on what may replace the camphor laurels, head to its website for more info.
