Fire has destroyed a house in Coffs Harbour on Tuesday morning.

Just after 9:30am, fire crews were called to Gundagai Place to find the property engulfed in flames.

When crews arrived water supply was difficult to secure. However Fire & Rescue NSW crews were assisted by RFS crews.

Police and Ambulance were also onsite, with West High Street closed to traffic between Lyster Street and Azalea Avenue.

According to FRNSW, a thorough search of the property was conducted with no one inside at the time.

FRNSW Crews from Woolgoolga, Sawtell and Coffs Harbour were joined by Hazmat teams.

It is understood that the structure contains asbestos. Hazmat crews will investigate before it is deemed safe.
