Four Measles Cases Confirmed on Coffs Coast

Four cases of measles have now been confirmed in the Coffs Harbour to Woolgoolga area by local health authorities on Wednesday afternoon.

Director of North Coast Public Health Unit, Paul Corben, confirmed to Triple M that a further suspected case in an infant is also being investigated.

It is understood that three of the four school aged children are unvaccinated.

Measles symptoms include fever, sore eyes and a cough. This is followed 3 or 4 days later by a red, blotchy rash spreading from the head and neck to the rest of the body.

Mr Corben’s advice is to contact your GP before attending the doctors.

"Vaccination is your best protection against this extremely contagious disease", Mr Corben said.
