Just after 6pm Coffs Harbour was hit by a massive hailstorm.

Large hailstones fell across the city constantly for about 5-10 minutes, turning streets and yards into white wonderlands.

Giant hail has been reported on the Mid North Coast.

According to one Triple M listener at Coopernook, hail around 4-5cm in size has fallen in a storm this afternoon.

The Bureau of Meteorology have released a severe thunderstorm warning for the Mid North Coast and Coffs Coast.

“A low pressure system is tracking eastwards across New South Wales triggering thunderstorm activity through parts of New South Wales” according to the BOM.

The thunderstorms are likely to produce giant hailstones, destructive winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding.

GIANT HAIL, DESTRUCTIVE WINDS and HEAVY RAINFALL FOR PARTS OF NEW SOUTH WALES

A low pressure system is tracking eastwards across New South Wales triggering thunderstorm activity through parts of New South Wales.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce giant hailstones, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and destructive winds over the next several hours in the Northern Rivers, Mid North Coast, Hunter, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, South West Slopes, Snowy Mountains, Australian Capital Territory, Northern Tablelands and parts of the Metropolitan, Illawarra and North West Slopes and Plains districts. Locations which may be affected include Lismore, Grafton, Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Taree, Newcastle, Armidale, Orange, Canberra, and Tamworth.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds over the next several hours in parts of the Central West Slopes and Plains, South West Slopes, Riverina, Lower Western and Upper Western districts. Locations which may be affected include Parkes, Condobolin, Nyngan, West Wyalong, Cobar, Forbes, Lake Cargelligo, Temora and Peak Hill.

A dangerous thunderstorm has been detected near Gloucester and is expected to affect Tuncurry within the hour. Giant hail and destructive winds are likely.

4 cm hail has been observed from a thunderstorm at Coopernook, on the Mid North Coast.

5cm hail has been observed from a thunderstorm at Gresford, in the Lower Hunter ‪at about 4pm‬.
