Coffs Coast locals are encouraged to have 'Coffee with a Cop' this Tuesday.

Officers from the Coffs Clarence Police District and community members will come together in an informal, neutral space to discuss community issues, build relationships, and drink coffee.

The initiative which have proved successful across the state will take place at various locations around the Coffs Clarence Police District.

Locations include:

  • Coffs Harbour – Coffs City Mall, Harbour Drive, Coffs Harbour: 9.30am to 10.30am
  • Woolgoolga – Bluebottles Café, Beach St, Woolgoolga: 8am to 9am
  • Bellingen - Hyde Café, Hyde Street, Bellingen: 11am to 12pm
  • Grafton – Toast Espresso, Prince St, Grafton: 10am to 12pm
  • Maclean – Botero Café, River St, Maclean, 10.30am to 11.30am

Coffee with a Cop provides a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the Police work in the Coffs Clarence neighbourhoods.

The majority of contacts law enforcement has with the public happen during emergencies, or emotional situations.

NSW Police say, "Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community, and some community members may feel that officers are unapproachable on the street".

The initiative breaks down barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-on-one interaction.

"We hope that community members will feel comfortable to ask questions, bring concerns, or simply get to know our officers", said Acting Superintendent Dave Waddell.

"These interactions are the foundation of community partnerships".

Similar events are being held across NSW, as local police districts strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve.
