A man has been charged after allegedly attempting to groom a child on the Mid North Coast.

About 10pm on Wednesday night, an 11 year old boy was on a train travelling between Taree and Kempsey when he was allegedly handed a note by a 42 year old man who was sitting nearby.

Police will allege in court that the note contained sexual references and threats of violence.

As the train left Kempsey Railway Station, it’s further alleged the man attempted to usher the boy into the toilet on the train.

Train guards were notified and police from Mid North Coast Police District attended.

The 42 year old man was arrested after the train stopped at Macksville Railway Station and taken to Macksville Police Station.

He was charged with procure child under 14 for unlawful sexual activity, procure child abuse material and behave in offensive manner in/near public place.

He was refused bail to appear at Macksville Local Court on Thursday 16 August 2018.
