A man has been charged following a terrifying two-car smash in Park Beach which hospitalised two people.

A 27-year-old man from Queensland has been accused of drug supply, possess prohibited weapon, and driving offences, after police allegedly found the drug ice, knuckle dusters and a homemade taser in the impacted vehicle yesterday.

Earlier, around 2:00pm police spotted the car – of interest to a criminal investigation - at a Moonee Beach shopping centre.

A 19-year-old man fled the BMW and officers apprehended him a short time later, as the vehicle drove off.

He assisted police inquiries yesterday afternoon.

Police attempted to intercept the car, as it allegedly drove south on the incorrect side of the Pacific Highway, impacting into another vehicle before police could stop it.

The 27-year-old man then ran from the BMW into a nearby shopping centre, before police arrested him.

A woman and child in the second car were transported to Coffs Harbour Base Hospital in a stable condition, while the man was taken to the facility for blood and urine testing.
