Coffs Harbour Mayor Denise Knight, and Councillor Paul Amos have both made it clear that they want tunnels rather than land bridges and cuttings for the Coffs Harbour Bypass.

Speaking on Triple M on Thursday, Councillor Amos said that about 2,500 heavy vehicles go through town a day.

"Of that let's call it 150 dangerous goods, but of that dangerous goods, only maximum of 20 that can't go through the tunnel", Cr Amos said.

He believes the solution is simple, that the tunnels are built, and the dangerous goods trucks remain going through the city.

Meanwhile, when asked if the Mayor Denise Knight's opinion of a possible 'cheapskate' option had changed, she said that it hadn't.

Agreeing that we do need the Bypass, the Mayor still wants the tunnels.

"What we want is want was originally decided on and that's three tunnels", Cr Knight said.
