A man and his 6 year old daughter who were thought to be lost at sea off New Zealand have been found, in Australia.

Authorities feared the worst when Alan Langdon and his daughter Que set sail in a 21 foot catamaran from Waikato on December 17.

The pair were meant to be travelling to the Bay of Islands, however on Wednesday morning, were located at a camp ground in Ulladulla, on the NSW south coast.

Friends of the family had concerns that the man may travel to Australia to avoid a custody dispute according to reports in the The Courier Mail.

The girl’s mother hired Queensland child recovery expert Col Chapman to assist in tracking the pair.

According to Mr Chapman, the pair cross the Tasman in the boat to Australia.

Authorities dubbed the trip as being “foolhardy and ill-considered”, however the builder of the catamaran believed the vessel could easily cross the Tasman to Australia.

It is understood that Mr Langdon, who is an Australian citizen that is living in New Zealand, is currently with Border Force officers.

At this stage it is unknown whether he will face repercussions for the journey.

In a statement from New Zealand Police, it says that Ms Wyler had been notified and New Zealand police were awaiting further information about Mr Langdon’s journey.

“An extensive search was conducted of sea and coastal areas between Wellington, Cape Reinga and the Bay of Islands”.
