A breakthrough in the investigation into the disappearance of William Tyrrell has search teams now focusing on a new area of NSW bushland.

Police revealed the latest news on Wednesday morning, just a day after what would have been William’s 7th birthday.

As they look for evidence in the case, NSW Police say that new information has uncovered an area just 4km from where the boy went missing in 2011 almost 4 years ago.

"Strike Force Rosann detectives identified an area of bushland at Cedar Loggers Lane and Batar Creek Road, Batar Creek, as an area of interest to their inquiries," NSW Police said.

The new area is outside the forensic search area.
