A warning has be issued again for people going rock fishing to take extra care after one man is dead on the NSW Far South Coast.

Emergency Crews and the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter were alerted, after reports after 1pm of several people being swept into the water at Tathra.

According to authorities, four rock fishermen were rescued, however one male, believed to be in his 50's, has died after paramedics were unable to revive him.

All people have now been accounted for.

The activity is classed as one of the most dangerous in NSW, and has generated much interest over the last 12 months.

A new government trial has introduced a new law on 1 December 2016, making it compulsory for anyone who is rock fishing anywhere in the Randwick local government area (including children), and anyone who is helping them rock fish, to wear a life jacket.

After the 12 month trial, NSW government will review the laws, and decide whether to roll out the new law permanently to other high risk areas.
