A 25 year old P-Plater has been detected speeding more than 70km/h over the limit.

NSW Traffic and Highway Patrol caught the driver on the Pacific Highway at Valla, south of Coffs Harbour, travelling at 164km/h in the 90km/h zone.

The P1 Provisional Driver was issued with an infringement notice exceed speed limit over 45kph, a $2350 fine and the loss of 12 demerit points (double demerits).

The driver's licence was confiscated and suspended on the spot for 6 months and number plates of the vehicle confiscated for 3 months.

NSW Police are currently undertaking Operation Safe Arrival.
