Police are appealing for public assistance following an armed robbery at a service station in Coffs Harbour this morning.

About 3am, police have been told a man armed with a firearm entered the store on Harbour Drive.

He threatened a male staff member with the firearm before stealing cash and cigarettes. The man was last seen running east on Harbour Drive.

Officers from Coffs/Clarence Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation.

Police have released an image of a man they wish to speak with who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

He has been described as 183cm tall and wearing a grey hooded jumper, dark pants, black joggers with white soles and a balaclava.

Anyone with information is urged to come forward.

EARLIER:

The United service station on Harbour Drive has reopened to customers this morning after being held up overnight.

Police had the location cordoned off until early this morning, while officers remained guarding the scene.

Just before 7am, a spokesperson for United said the business was re-opened to customers.

Investigations are ongoing.
